The purpose of this research is to study and evaluate future prospects and related political and other challenges and threats during the digitalization of the electoral process in modern Russia. The work focuses on the digitalization of electoral procedures carried out since 2017. Currently, it covers virtually all stages of the electoral process, from the compilation of voter lists (electronic lists) to the expression of will (various types of electronic voting) and vote counting (electronic systems for processing ballots). When writing the article, a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach was used, which made it possible to use methods such as analogy and modeling, analysis and synthesis, comparative analysis, deduction and induction, which made it possible to characterize individual elements of the digitalization of the electoral process and its stages, during which various information and other technologies are used, to draw parallels in the field of digital practices in the field of domestic electoral procedures. The conclusions of the study are based on the fact that the process of digitalization of electoral practices has both positive and negative aspects. Among the advantages of this electoral practice are the accessibility and broad inclusion of citizens in the electoral process through online platforms and various messengers, which allows voters to communicate directly with representatives of the public administration, express their electoral preferences, and voice their wishes regarding the political agenda. At the same time, there are negative aspects of this phenomenon, such as digital inequality, insufficient regulation of the issue of protecting personal data of voters, their protection from cyber attacks, and the polarization of various groups of voters, which is achieved by the influence of social algorithms and neural networks on them. The theoretical significance consists in conducting a meaningful excursion into the history of the phased digitalization of the electoral process in post-Soviet and modern Russia, summarizing the data obtained. The practical significance lies in the recommendations proposed (improving the level of digital literacy, ensuring equal access to digital technologies for citizens, countering government agencies against authorities that disseminate false information, ensuring the confidentiality of personal data of voters) aimed at eliminating negative aspects related to the digitalization of the electoral process.
