The issue of the significance of information in accounting statements is of particular relevance in the context of a dynamically changing legal landscape. In the basic set of federal accounting standards, the terms "significance", "significant information", and "criterion of significance" are actively used. However, the definition of "significant information" was only established in the regulatory framework in 2025. The Federal Accounting Standard 4/2023 established clear requirements for what information should be considered significant and defined an approach to its determination. This study aims to explore existing methods and approaches to establishing criteria for materiality, their practical application, and identify challenges in generating high-quality financial statements.
