The article analyzes Franco-American economic relations through the prism of French company Alstom case (2013-2015) and related political and judicial processes. The research is based on the top manager Frederic Pierucci’s memoirs demonstrating how the state and corporate interests’ rivalry in the globalized context often turns into a “secret” economic “war.” The central place in the article is occupied by Frederic Pierucci arrest in the United States, charges of corruption by Alstom in a number of countries, the subsequent fines payment and the part of the business sale to the General Electric concern. The text examines the American Law “On Countering Foreign Corrupt Practices” as an US economic pressure on foreign businesses instrument and its impact on European corporations. Special attention is paid to the role played by French state and Emmanuel Macron, then an official in Francois Hollande’s presidential administration.
