Актуальность представленного исследования определяется тем, что любой масштабный экономический кризис сопровождается целым спектром социально-экономических проблем, одной из которых является рост безработицы. С одной стороны, снижение покупательной способности населения в результате роста безработицы негативно влияет на спрос и дестимулирует производство. С другой стороны, рост безработицы индуцирует усиление социальной напряженности в обществе. В этой связи исследование причин возникновения безработицы и путей ее преодоления представляет собой важную теоретико-методологическую задачу. Целью представленной работы является исследование с теоретико-методологических позиций причин возникновения безработицы в США во время Великой депрессии, ее влияния на экономику страны и путей преодоления этой социально-экономической проблемы. Научная новизна полученных результатов заключается в демонстрации того, что США так и не смогли решить проблему безработицы, возникшую в период Великой депрессии, за счет развития собственной экономики. Только Вторая мировая война (как до этого Первая мировая война) обеспечила США решение проблемы безработицы и обогащение страны. Практическая значимость полученных результатов заключается в понимании того, что одним из сценариев роста безработицы, продемонстрированном на примере Великой депрессии в США, является интенсивный рост рассогласования между сокращением экспорта товаров на рынке реальных активов при сохраняющемся росте спекулятивной активности на рынке финансовых активов.
The relevance of this study is determined by the fact that any large-scale economic crisis is accompanied by a wide range of socioeconomic problems, one of which is rising unemployment. On the one hand, the decline in purchasing power due to rising unemployment negatively impacts demand and discourages production. On the other hand, rising unemployment induces increased social tensions. Therefore, studying the causes of unemployment and ways to overcome it represents an important theoretical and methodological task. The aim of this paper is to examine, from a theoretical and methodological perspective, the causes of unemployment in the USA during the Great Depression, its impact on the country's economy, and ways to overcome this socioeconomic problem. The scientific novelty of the obtained results lies in demonstrating that the USA was unable to resolve the unemployment problem that arose during the Great Depression through economic development. Only World War II (like World War I before it) provided the USA with a solution to the unemployment problem and the country's wealth. The practical significance of the obtained results lies in the understanding that one of the scenarios for the growth of unemployment, demonstrated by the example of the Great Depression in the USA, is an intensive growth of the discrepancy between the reduction in the export of goods in the real asset market with the continued growth of speculative activity in the financial asset market.
