Были проведены опыты, позволившие установить оптимальную скорость движения ленты с ковшами, с целью уменьшения обратной сыпи. Была построена зависимость массы груза на ленте ковшового элеватора от его скоростного режима работы, зависимость площади башмака ковшового элеватора от его скоростного режима работы и зависимость удельной площади башмака ковшового элеватора от его скоростного режима работы. В результате было выявлено, что быстроходные ковшовые элеваторы по сравнению с тихоходными имеют меньшие габаритные размеры в расчете на единицу производительности и единицу высоты транспортирования зерна.
