The article identifies and undergoes a comprehensive study of the actual problem of the little- studied phenomenon of criminal law impact and, in particular, its goals. The basis of the research is the formal legal method. The author's understanding of the essence and goals of criminal law impact is formulated, the features are investigated and the signs of special state activity related to influencing the consciousness and will of individuals are highlighted. The scientific problem of goal-setting of criminal legal impact as the only form of implementation of the criminal policy of the state is identified and investigated.
