In 1880, Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky published "Pushkin's Speech". A short time later, in the same year, Alexander Dmitrievich Gradovsky, a professor at the Law Faculty of St. Petersburg University, wrote a critical article on Dostoevsky's "Pushkin's Speech" entitled "Dreams and Reality...". This criticism has generated a great deal of interest in relation to Dostoevsky. The latter responded to Gradovsky lengthily in "A nag to a single case". The discussions between F.M. Dostoevsky and A.D. Gradovsky produced many reflections on moral philosophy. Both cultural figures believed that the problems of moral philosophy are closely related to the problems of political philosophy. But with regard to personal morality and public morality, Fyodor Dostoevsky and Alexander Gradovsky had serious disagreements. The great domestic writer believed that Russian society would be gradually improved by the constant improvement of personal morality of each person. In turn, the major legal scholar, a subordinate of the Russian Empire, declared that only through the continuous transformation of public morality could Russian society really take the path of development.
