The article examines the features of metaphorization in the lexical and semantic space of the Russian riddle, shows the specifics of the translation of knowledge about the world of material, social and moral values through the riddle. The metaphorical principles of creating the image of a House in the Russian riddle are analyzed, which provide it with the opportunity to be an active source of folklore imagery. The article illustrates stable models of semantic transfer from the living to the inanimate and vice versa, defining culturally significant comparisons characteristic of Russian national imagery describing the way of life and the existence of the people.
