The article explores the evolving cooperation among BRICS countries in the field of artificial intelligence as a key dimension of contemporary digital transformation. It examines the institutional framework of this cooperation, including leaders’ declarations, sectoral tracks, and working groups, within which artificial intelligence is gradually established as a cross-cutting technology of economic and social development. The study shows that, despite significant political attention to artificial intelligence, practical cooperation within BRICS remains uneven. Joint initiatives are constrained by differences in national regulatory models, limitations related to data access and cross-border data use, as well as disparities in infrastructure and technological capacities among member states. These factors contribute to a gap between declared cooperation goals and their practical implementation. The article argues that, at the current stage, the most realistic path for deepening cooperation lies in the development of applied and project-based formats focused on concrete tasks and measurable outcomes. It concludes that gradual alignment of approaches to data and standards, along with the use of existing BRICS mechanisms without creating new supranational institutions, represents a pragmatic strategy for advancing cooperation. The findings may be useful for analytical and expert work in the fields of international technological cooperation and digital policy.
