This article explores the importance of reading literacy in the current context, which in Russian society is characterized as a reading crisis. It analyzes how the development of reading literacy in primary school students depends on their motivation and interest in reading. The creation of problematic situations in Literary Reading lessons is proposed as a priority method. The importance of not only intellectual but also emotional experiences in accumulating reading experience is emphasized, which largely determines the student’s ability to successfully develop further.
