The article considers the issues of student improvisation in the classroom activities in "Plastic Modeling" course on the basis of the evolution of ideas about shaping in the historical schools of design. The article is focused on the analysis of the specific features of the design engineering, some characteristics of the method of abstract volumetric-spatial composite modeling — one of the principles of shape-formation, as well as conditions of stimulating student motivation for creativity that determines the vital importance of the problem of future designers training to practice. From the material presented in the article one can draw a conclusion about the main professional activity of bachelors — the ability to learn using the theoretical and empirical knowledge in professional problem solving, the development of non-standard approach to problem tasks. The result of applying of this method in the classroom is shown by the photographs of student compositional work.

Актуальность рассматриваемой проблемы развития творческой активности у студентов-дизайнеров, обучающихся в новых образовательных условиях бакалавриата, заключается в определении путей, способствующих стимулированию их творческого воображения, творческого мышления, связанного со стремлением к продуктивной деятельности получения готового результата.
Главная задача учебного проектирования в системе дизайнерского образования — научить студентов творить, т.е. создавать новый прообраз (первая стадия проектирования), именно это определяет специфику дизайнерского проектирования. Рассматривая творческий процесс у студентов-дизайнеров, необходимо найти основные подходы к созданию условий активизации их способностей, знаний и умений. Само творчество характеризуется как целостный процесс с выделением таких признаков, как наличие проблемы и противоречий; творческие задачи; концентрация творческих усилий; новизна и оригинальность полученного результата.
