The article analyzes the content and types of the philosophical foundations of science is an important structural element of metatheoretic knowledge in science. Identifies and describes the following types of philosophical foundations of science: ontological, epistemological, social, axiological and anthropological. Acknowledges their important functions in the structure and dynamics of science: the rational justification of the scientific picture of the world, as well as the ideals and norms of scientific research, the translation of scientific knowledge into the culture and mass consciousness, using as a criterion of rational choice among competing fundamental hypotheses and research programmes.
