Currently in the process of teaching children an important role is played by research activities. In Ryazan during the last twenty years, the city scientifi c and practical conferences of students of 9-11 grades “Steps” and students of 5-8 grades “Small Steps” are organized by the Center of monitoring and support of education and Lyceum No. 4. The article describes the trends of changes in the content and methods of carrying out conferences, outlines the features of organizing city conferences at the current stage of the development of education, which allow supporting the interest of schoolchildren in research and project activity.
