A science intensive chemical-thermal processing in air-ammonia environment allowing the formation a wear-resistant layer on high-precision alloy steel parts surfaces at the expense of nitrides of alloy elements is considered. The results of micro-hardness distribution throughout a layer thickness are shown. The advantage of the process considered in comparison with common nitride hardening is shown.
