In the work, the author reveals the features of the implementation of professional competence in the context of law enforcement. Competence as a set of knowledge, skills and abilities is considered as a component of the work of employees of internal affairs bodies that assist in the detection, investigation and prevention of crimes. Special emphasis in the study is placed on professional activity in the field of criminology and those of its problems that require the most attention. The implementation of innovative forensic techniques is one of the promising areas for the development of forensic support for law enforcement, and taking into account this fact, the author compares the capabilities of modern specialists and current problems of crime investigation.
