The aim of this work is to investigate the reliability of the automatic transmission of buses LiAZ-5256, based on the analysis of changes in the technical condition of the automatic transmis-sion during operation. Failure analysis on transmission in general was performed, and the optimal periodicity of a major overhaul of the automatic gearbox of city buses was calculated
