In this article, the author, based on generally accepted theories of motivation, analysis of the moral and business qualities of cadets of higher military educational institutions, as well as the conditions of their service, proposes a scheme for increasing the non-material motivation of personnel for self-education. The scheme is based on pedagogical techniques tested during a pedagogical experiment conducted at the Krasnodar Higher Military School named after Army General S.M. Shtemenko in the period from 2022 to 2024
