Modern industrial and regional services markets in the Russian Federation are characterized by a high level of competition. In this regard, there is a shortage of qualified workers capable of effectively carrying out labor activities in enterprises in practice. Under these conditions, the requirements for professional training of graduates of educational institutions at all levels have increased significantly. This article examines dual education as a training system that combines theoretical training of students in secondary vocational education institutions with enhanced practical training of a future specialist at an enterprise. Dual training is practice-oriented in nature and, as practice shows, is capable of ensuring not only proper training of the graduate in accordance with the educational program, but also creating conditions for mastering professional skills in an enterprise environment. The article discusses the concepts of dualism and duality, provides terms associated with duality in relation to education abroad and in Russia, describes the system of vocational education in the Soviet Union (history of the issue), examines the features of the implementation of dual education of students in institutions of secondary vocational education using the example implementation of a dual education system in different regions of our country, from the period when the pilot project was launched to the present.
