The article examines issues of innovation activity in metallurgical industry: stage of the industry’s development from position of innovation is defined. Classification of conducting research activity, as well as costs of enterprise for its realization is considered. The concept of open innovation based on partnership between different actors in metallurgy industry in forming value chain is presented; main constraints and conditions for its implementation are considered. In conclusion prospects of this concept in framework of ecological innovations development and achievement of sustainable development goals in metallurgical industry, are presented.
