Abstract (English):
The article compares two plays by German and Russian playwrights F. Goebbel and A. N. Ostrovsky. The ways of the development of "bourgeois" tragedy in the 19th century are considered. The analysis of the characters' speech is carried out in terms of their appeals to the texts of the Bible as the main "standard" important for the social environment represented in these plays.
