The article examines Russian state and legal symbols as a significant element of legal culture. The authors refer to the interpretations of the symbol and its functional meaning proposed by foreign and domestic authors and, based on them, assess the significance of state and legal symbols of Russia as a factor in the formation of civil and legal consciousness, identity of citizens, a unified legal ideology, preservation of the matrix of Russian legal culture, and, as a consequence, an increase in the level of public solidarity and law and order, which is very relevant in the context of external challenges and domestic tasks. The authors come to the conclusion that in modern Russian society there remains a problem of a uniform understanding of the meaning and essence of state and legal symbols, the history of their origin, which requires complex measures. A solution at the normative level requires the problem of determining the limits of the unofficial use of state and legal symbols by citizens, as well as their use in virtual space.
