The paper is devoted to the analysis of existing methods for diagnosing laser thermal surface hardening, determining the most effective of them and choosing informative diagnostic parameters for laser surface processing of parts. The advantages of acoustic emission (AE) method for the diagnostics of surface thermal hardening can be noted as a novelty of the study. As a result, informative parameters based on the acoustic emission method are formulated.
