The article is devoted to the characteristic of political television interview as an oral genre of political discourse from the perspective of multimodality. The study was conducted using video analysis and multimodal discourse analysis based on video and transcripts of television interviews with Russian President V.V. Putin and Minister of Foreign Affairs S.V. Lavrov by Russian and foreign journalists in the period from 2023 to 2024. As a result, it was revealed that political television interview’s genre specificity consists of interactivity, dialogicity, rituality, theatricality, persuasiveness, explainability and spontaneity, which are manifested through a variety of linguistic means (lexical, syntactic and stylistic) and non-verbal signs (prosodic, kinesic, proxemic and spatial), reflecting the dynamic nature of discourse. Scientific novelty of the article lies in the comprehensive consideration of verbal and nonverbal communication in studying political television interview. We see practical significance of the research in the possibility of using its results in studies of political discourse, communicative linguistics, multimodality theory and social semiotics.
