The paper presents a hydrodynamic method ot calculation of the selective intake process in the reservoir continuously along the entire depth of density stratification. As a mathematical model of the intake process is used the boundary value problem of the linear theory of surface gravity waves of small amplitude in an ideal incompressible and inhomogeneous fluid. The resulting set of design formulas, which allows to solve the problem of water supply of industrial enterprises, including thermal and nuclear power plants from the pond with a continuous density stratification. The proposed calculation method allows this speed of water intake through the window and the height of the intake window that ensure the proper position of the interface corresponding to the specified plane (temperature) of water withdrawn.
