FRAME ORGANIZATION OF THE CONCEPT “TIME” IN NOMINATIVE (RUSSIAN, ENGLISH) AND ERGATIVE (INGUSH) LANGUAGES

Abstract (English):
This research undertakes an attempt to represent the concept of “time” through frame analysis, enabling the identification of core scenarios and roles associated with this notion in Russian, English, and Ingush. The purpose of the study is to delineate the semantic structure of the concept “time” by examining its frame organization and to identify both shared and distinctive features within a comparative-typological analysis of these three unrelated languages and cultures. The methodological foundation of this work rests on cognitive linguistics, specifically frame semantics, which allows for the interpretation of the concept as a mental structure comprised of interconnected frame elements and scenarios of their realization. Lexicalsemantic analysis revealed key frames shaping the representation of “time” in the conceptualizations of speakers of nominative and ergative languages: linguistic time, physical time, philosophical time and religious-sacral time. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the cognitive mechanisms underlying the representation of time in Russian, English, and Ingush languages and cultures. Specifically, this paper presents a linguocognitive frame model of the concept “time” across these three linguistic systems. The scientific novelty of this study lies in the first comprehensive frame semantic analysis/investigation of the concept of “time” across three languages with distinct typological profiles: Russian, English, and Ingush The findings of this study have the potential to make a significant contribution to the development of more effective translation strategies and/or to the formulation of novel theoretical models elucidating the relationship between linguistic structures and cognitive schemas. Furthermore, these results may inform practical applications in artificial intelligence and cross-cultural communication.
