The long absence of any tangible success in solving the problem of Cartesian dualism, known in various formulations and under different names ("Psychophysical Problem", "Mind-Body Problem", "Hard Problem of Consciousness", etc.) indicates the need to search for non-trivial approaches to its solution, one of which, proposed in the article, is based on changing our ideas about space-time. The idea of space-time as a dual space-time, in one part of which (physical space-time) matter is localized, and in the other part (metaphysical space-time) – spirit, allows us to find answers to the main questions of the problem of Cartesian dualism. It is shown that the connection between matter and spirit is necessary, since the components of dual space-time: physical and metaphysical space-time, are necessarily associated with each other. Among other things, this allows us to abandon the understanding of the problem of Cartesian dualism as a problem of substantial dualism and to seek a solution within the framework of substantial monism. The most important element of the proposed solution is the hypothesis of the existence of phenomenal probability waves in metaphysical reality, which under certain conditions can be controlled by volitional acts of the soul. Such a mechanism is capable of ensuring the formation of information flows from the soul to the body. Special attention in the article is paid to the problem of the causal closure of the physical, which is an invariable companion of any problems in one way or another related to attempts to solve the problem of Cartesian dualism. It is emphasized that quantum processes underlying the interaction of soul and body are characterized by a different type of causality, which was previously not distinguished from physical causality. This type of causality is called in the article «the causality of choice». It is a phenomenon of metaphysical reality and, together with physical causality, underlies the implementation of quantum processes.
