Nyneshnee, zatyanuvsheesya na desyatiletiya depressivnoe sostoyanie lesnogo sektora ekonomiki v Rossiyskoy Federacii privelo k disproporcii mezhdu social'no-ekonomicheskim effektom i zatratami na podderzhanie prirodnogo potenciala lesov. Prichina kroetsya v ustarevshem stile i metodah upravleniya lesnymi blagami po vsem ih vazhneyshim funkciyam. V stat'e predlagaetsya ispol'zovat' polozhitel'nyy zarubezhnyy opyt realizacii principov lesnogo menedzhmenta kak orientira dlya provedeniya korennyh preobrazovaniy sistemy upravleniya lesnym sektorom ekonomiki. Lesnoy menedzhment – eto effektivnaya sistema upravleniya vosproizvodimym prirodnym ob'ektom cennosti v rynochnoy ekonomike. On posluzhit nachalom kreativnogo stanovleniya otechestvennogo stilya rachitel'nogo pol'zovaniya bogatstvami lesov dlya obschestvennyh nuzhd i rossiyskogo naseleniya. Usloviya razvitiya cifrovoy rynochnoy ekonomiki blagopriyatstvuyut primeneniyu metodov menedzhmenta v lesnom sektore. Predlagayutsya teoretiko-metodologicheskie podhody k formirovaniyu lesnogo menedzhmenta, opredeleno ego mesto v sisteme ekonomicheskih i upravlencheskih nauk, etapy formirovaniya strategii i taktiki ego poetapnogo stanovleniya: kardinal'noe obnovlenie normativnoy bazy i na ee osnove sovershenstvovanie metodiki kolichestvennoy i stoimostnoy ocenki ekologo-tehnologicheski dostupnyh resursov i poleznyh funkciy lesnyh ekosistem s primeneniem sredstv sovremennyh metodov poznaniya. Eto razreshit problemu riskov proektnogo menedzhmenta v processe stanovlenii lesnyh biznesov pri postanovke v izvestnost' razmerov lesnyh regional'nyh bogatstv kak ob'ektov upravleniya oborotom lesnyh vidov resursov vo vremeni i prostranstve s uchetom zatrat na ih ekonomicheskoe vosproizvodstvo na territorii zemel' gosudarstvennogo lesnogo fonda.
