This issue of the current state of the industrial housing estate postwar modern society's demands, forecasting the development of the situation connected with this housing stock, and the development of action strategies to improve it - so far as relevant and urgent problems and tasks that can be considered as their national interests. Renovation is one of the possible scenarios is a promising direction, but requires careful preparation and resolution of many economic, social, legal, urban planning, architectural and technical issues arising in this regard. It is important to critically examine foreign experience renovating similar fund-specific economic and legal environment in different countries. The paper shows successful and unsuccessful experiences of different countries, which is related to the specific conditions prevailing. Provided a group of individual factors for each country, such as technical obsolescence and development, property ownership issues, funding mechanisms, the degree of state involvement in the organization of the process, increase the profitability of the energy efficiency of buildings, the prevailing attitude in society to such a building.
