The article discusses issues related to the application of the socio-economic space-based approach to the study of the innovative development of the region. The reasons for the emergence of innovation as a complex and multifaceted concept are being investigated. Innovation is considered as a key tool for gaining a competitive advantage. The actors contributing to the formation and practical implementation of innovations are indicated. Various forms of interaction of actors in innovation activity are considered. The methods of stimulating the interaction of actors of innovation activity are formulated. The evolution of the role of the region's innovation space in the economic sphere is given. Various aspects of the importance of spatial factors are substantiated. The forms of influence of spatial factors on the economic development of regions are considered
