The article examines the problem of forming professional competencies of future physical education teachers in the context of modern requirements for the system of physical education and sports. The relevance of the study is due to the need to improve the professional training of teaching staff amid the modernization of the educational process and the introduction of a competency-based approach. Key aspects of professional training are analyzed, including motivational, theoretical, and practice-oriented elements that reveal the specifics of competency development in the field of physical education and sports. Particular attention is paid to the role of federal state educational standards of higher education (FSES HE) and professional standards in defining learning outcome requirements. The study emphasizes the importance of integrating theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and personal qualities of future specialists to ensure their readiness to address professional challenges in a dynamically changing society. A definition of the concept of "formation of professional competencies" has been formulated as it applies to the training of physical education teachers in sports educational organizations.
