This article addresses the development of universal (soft) skills among students of secondary vocational education (SVE) programs in fields related to tourism and hospitality. Based on an analysis of strategic and regulatory documents, as well as the results of a sociological survey of tourism industry representatives, the study identifies key employer expectations regarding the professional and personal profile of future specialists. It is shown that universal skills are viewed as an essential component of professional competence. The article justifies the need for pedagogical approaches that ensure the targeted development of these skills within the educational process. As a practical recommendation, the use of extracurricular competitive activities is proposed as a realistic and replicable mechanism for cultivating soft skills in SVE students.
