The article highlights the importance of modern transformations of professional training in higher education institutions for future specialists in helping professions and the need for a new generation of personnel. Based on the analysis of research in various branches of scientific knowledge and taking into account the trends in the development of modern society, the relevance of training competitive specialists in the modern labor market is presented. The authors of the article reveal such concepts as "competence", "competence", "competence approach", and offer a description of the main professional competencies of future specialists in helping professions. At the same time, the article examines the role of personnel in helping professions when working with children with disabilities.
