The paper presents an analysis of modern methods of assessment and training of new employees, including administrative and legal aspects of the use of test tasks, testing upon hiring and mentoring. The relevance of the presented topic is dictated by the current situation on the labor market, which determines the personnel shortage and forces employers to speed up hiring, increasing the risk of erroneous decisions. The article substantiates the need for the simultaneous use of a probationary period and mentoring as complementary tools to improve the efficiency of personnel selection, assessment and adaptation, which have not previously received wide coverage in applied HR research. The practical value lies in covering the legal and organizational aspects of working with new employees, as well as in developing solutions to reduce personnel risks for employers, based on an analysis of the latest changes in legislation and court decisions.
