The article describes the modern trend of personnel management — volunteering — from the point of view of the author’s own experience. Work with volunteers is defined as one of the priority areas of activity today and, at the same time, one of the most difficult. Attracting, training, organizing and retaining volunteers requires eff ective management of these processes. The organization of work of volunteers requires a certain technology, it is a special kind of human resources management. With good organization, the value of the work done by volunteers can far exceed the cost of managing them. There is a comparison of areas of personnel management systems in the company and in volunteer projects. The theme is revealed how the theoretical base of the discipline of personnel management is applied in direct practice.
